We wanted a space to showcase our collaborative approach combining experimental and computational neuroscience

The Sainsbury Wellcome Centre launches a new website

6 March 2019

We have today launched a new website showcasing our cutting-edge neuroscience research and world-class facilities. Communications Manager, April Cashin-Garbutt, outlines the reasoning behind the redesign, what’s new and plans for the future.

Vision behind the redesign

It was clear that our previous website didn’t sufficiently reflect our innovative mission to transform neuroscience. And so we embarked upon a discovery process, speaking with external and internal neuroscientists, current and potential students, professional and scientific staff, funders and members of the public.

Through data analysis and insightful conversations with our audience, we developed a clear vision for the new website. We wanted a space to showcase our collaborative approach combining experimental and computational neuroscience; an exciting platform to share key research developments and a user-friendly experience for those looking for information on our PhD programme and research opportunities at the Sainsbury Wellcome Centre.

What’s new?

The new website has a clean, modern design and is fully responsive, meaning it adjusts to screen size, making it much easier to navigate on smartphones and tablets.

There is a strong focus on the three central research questions studied at the Sainsbury Wellcome Centre:

  • How does the brain generate and update representations of the world?
  • How does the brain make decisions and select actions?
  • How does the brain learn and remember?

Together these questions encapsulate our strategy of transforming neuroscience through discovering how the brain gives rise to behaviour.

We now have a dynamic homepage featuring latest news, videos and upcoming events. Our PhD Programme section has had a major overhaul to include more detail on the syllabi and applications process. The homepage also features a new animation outlining the research approach at the Sainsbury Wellcome Centre.

Researchers can be found through our research group pages, our people pages or our intelligent search function. Latest publications are also easily accessible through the research group pages.

There is also a wealth of information on our outstanding facilities, platforms, tools and software, along with articles on what it's like working at the Sainsbury Wellcome Centre and the exciting ways we are sharing our science including public engagement.

Plans for the future

Like any good website, we will continue to evolve SainsburyWellcome.org and the website will grow as we grow as an organisation. The website was built with the future in mind and we have some exciting plans for interactive developments, so watch this space!

In the meantime, we hope you enjoy the new website and if you spot anything that needs adjusting, please let us know.
